In just his second collegiate event, Fisher nearly cracked a very tough top-10 list among conference greats in the 5K distance as the Oilers competed back-to-back days on Friday and Saturday.
Fisher was runner-up in the 5K event at the Youngstown State Invitational on Friday, impressing with a time of 14:52.13, while establishing a new school record.
A total of 20 individuals were entered and the true freshman was second only to Ashland’s Steven Kapes, who was formerly a runner at Walsh.
Fisher’s time would have established a new conference championship record that has been held since 2018 by Walsh’s Mark Hadley.
He was less than 3 seconds of entering the top 10 of the event among the likes of Trevecca’s Logan Rodgers, Cedarville’s Matt Brooker, Hillsdale’s Joseph Humes and Malone’s George McCartney.
This is Fisher’s first conference weekly honor for the indoor track and field season.
