Think of how many points you would accumulate by correctly spelling the Findlay junior’s last name in a fun game of Scrabble.
Tanner G. was on fire at the Kyle Ryman Memorial Invitational as he collected medalist honors in the three-round event hosted by Tiffin with a total score of 209 (69-67-73). The Oilers won the event with a total of 16 teams in the field.
He recorded the third-best tournament score in conference history (-9) only behind the Trevecca Nazarene tandem of Larken Whittemore/Blain Turner, who both were 12-under par at the Mississippi Invitational.
Grzegorczyk carried the torch for a Findlay program with incredible depth as senior Luke Kelly and freshman Justin Atkinson tied for second just three strokes behind their teammate’s pace.
Caleb Westfall and last week’s conference athlete of the week, Sam Griffith, also were in the mix as UF’s “A” unit were top 12 individually or better.
That group also tied the conference single-round record with a 273 (-15) in the second round and posted the second-best tournament score in conference history with an 845 (-19).
Grzegorczyk also set the conference scoring record after 36 holes with a 136 (-8). He came into the tournament tied for 13th in the conference in scoring average and moved into the top five with an updated total of 72.33 through nine rounds played.
This is his first conference career weekly honor.
