Matt Brooker has been named G-MAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week following his record breaking performance in the 5,000 meter run at the Penn State National Invitational in University Park, Pennsylvania.
Brooker, competing against 22 runners, was the only NCAA Division II runner in the race and the only runner not from NCAA Division I to finish in the top eight. He finished in a school-record time of 14:36.27 and finished in fourth place. His time was just over half a second faster than the previous record at Cedarville, established back in 2002 by Sergio Reyes.
The 2012 and 2013 Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Year and G-MAC Champion, qualified provisionally with his performance as the NCAA DII Provisional time is 14:56.59 in his first and only indoor race of the season.
