With a pair of one-goal victories, including an overtime final, Wheeling Jesuit enjoyed a strong week after processing an unexpected coaching change midseason in the program.
Smith spearheaded the offensive effort as the Cardinals defeated Davis & Elkins and Dominican (N.Y.). Wheeling Jesuit scored a combined 31 goals in the two games.
Smith accounted for nine points, including five goals and four assists, during the past week of competition. He also added eight ground balls and caused a pair of turnovers to help WJU win two.
Smith scored twice in the opening period in conference action against D&E. He scored the first of four goals in the final frame as the Cardinals came back from a 13-11 deficit against the Senators.
With 32 seconds left in overtime vs. Dominican, Smith delivered the game winner. It was his lone score of the game, but he had a hand in four others to get credit for the assist.
Smith leads Wheeling Jesuit with 28 points (17 G, 11 A) in all 10 of WJU’s games played so far.
