The Great Midwest boasts four of the top five throwers nationally in the shot put, with the rookie Bennett establishing himself among the elite in his first year at the college level.
Bennett has been a specialist in the event for the Dragons, competing in shot put only in the Tiffin Alumni Open, Oiler Opener and Tiffin Dragon Open.
While his season best came in the Oiler Opener, Bennett won the event with a toss of 18.10 meters (59’ 4.75”) in his second attempt. He beat out teammate Nikolas Curtiss, who is ranked third in the NCAA DII in shot put.
Bennett remains second all-time in the conference record books and only trails Findlay’s senior Eldred Henry, who was national athlete of the week just last week.
