Curtiss made an instant splash in the throws cage, putting himself in national championship territory with an auto-qualifying mark in the shot put in his first meet of the year.
Curtiss is only second to 2018 NCAA Indoor champion Austin Combs of Findlay following his attempt of 18.26m (59’11”).
Not surprisingly, Curtiss’ distance currently ranks first in all of NCAA Division II through the first weekend of competition.
He also placed fourth in the weight throw among a standout group of throwers in the event, including teammates Toryko Grace, Tristen Durr, Jabari Bennett and Kyle Stump.
