Downs scored five goals and had an assist as Wheeling Jesuit beat the Tars at home on Sunday. The senior attack is coming off a season with 38 goals and 17 assists in 14 contests and is already established as one of the league’s premier offensive threats.
Downs tallied a man-down goal for the first score of the second half and was credited with the eventual game winner against Rollins.
Downs gave Wheeling Jesuit a 3-1 lead with his first goal of the spring with 3:08 left in the first period.
He also closed out the game’s scoring with his fifth goal of the contest in unassisted fashion with 93 seconds left to play.
