Lacey Grimes has been named Softball Offensive Athlete of the Week for the first time, ending the five-week streak of her teammate Breanna Zeis. This past week, Grimes batted .714 with five runs scored, six runs batted in, two doubles and two home runs for 13 total bases and an amazing 1.857 slugging percentage. All of this in just seven at-bats in four games. She also walked four times for an .818 on-base percentage.
Grimes led her team to a perfect 12-0 G-MAC regular season with a doubleheader sweep of Ursuline College on Saturday. In the two games, both 9-0 wins, Grimes went 2-3 with a run and an RBI in game one and then 3-3 with two runs and four batted in during game two. She had a double in game one and a double and two home runs in game two.
In two other games during the week against Bethel she totaled four walks, two runs scored and an RBI in only one official at-bat (0-1).
On the season, Grimes finished the regular-season with seven home runs, which was tied for second most with Urbana’s Ashley Skinner, three behind teammate Zeis. She finished in the top ten in RBI (7th - 20), total bases (6th - 53), walks (4th - 15), on base percentage (8th - .417), and slugging percentage (3rd - .609). Her .310 batting average ranked 13th in the conference.
