There will be 14 full-member institutions lined up for the 2023-24 academic year following the announcement of Thomas More University's acceptance into the NCAA Division II membership in July of 2022. The Saints will be the second member instituion from the state of Kentucky and the only DIvision II institution in the greater Cincinnati area.

In April of 2021, Northwood University joining the Great Midwest Athletic Conference going official. The Timberwolves add the second member institution from the state of Michigan (Hillsdale) to the Great Midwest and will carry over 18 competitive intercollegiate athletic programs to the league. 

In May of 2020, the Great Midwest released news of Ashland University joining the league as a full member institution for the 2021-22 academic year. The Eagles fortified the conference's already prominent footprint in the state of Ohio and added additional prestige across the board in their intercollegiate sport offerings. 

Ashland was already an associate member in the sport of wrestling for 2020-21 and delivered for a conference championship team title in January. 

For 2022-23, the Great Midwest features 13 full-member institutions and six associate member schools in the current academic year.
