COLUMBUS, Ohio- Northwood University, specifically Travis McCurdy and Luke Starkey, were officially honored with the annual Great Midwest Athletic Conference Sports Information (SID) Staff of the Year Award as part of the league’s annual sports staff meetings conducted on Thursday.
The 2025-26 SID Staff of the Year Award was voted upon by the conference sports information departments, with three votes being cast per institution.
The team of Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Travis McCurdy and Athletic Communications and Marketing Director Luke Starkey make up the sports information team at Northwood. McCurdy has been a staple of NU athletics since 2003, where he first served as Sports Information Director before earning an Assistant Athletic Director in 2016. Starkey joined the staff in 2022 after serving as an intern in Ohio Dominican’s athletic department.
“We are extremely thankful to earn this honor, especially considering the outstanding group of athletic communication members in our conference,” said McCurdy. “The SIDs in this league are great people, which makes getting recognized by the group even more special. Luke and I are blessed to work in a tremendous athletic department that supports us greatly. We are also thankful for our outstanding group of student-workers that make our jobs possible.”
The duo collectively promotes student-athletes across Northwood’s 18 NCAA sponsored sports, while also providing the conference office with support at championships. This past year, NU was the neutral site host for the 2025 Great Midwest Cross Country Championships and helped organize and facilitate communications efforts at the event. The two also hosted the women’s basketball championship and provided support at the baseball and softball championships. This is the first tear NU captured the award since joining the conference in 2022.

The award recognizes and takes into consideration the following criteria: hospitality and communication demonstrated towards their peers, accuracy and timeliness of statistics, social media development and growth and any additional awards received with in the industry.
