With teams traveling for major national tournaments and fighting for crucial late-season conference positioning, the weekend delivered high-stakes matchups across the board.
#4 Ashland Eagles Battle the Nation's Best in Texas
The 4th-ranked Eagles made the trek to Austin, Texas, for the highly competitive St. Edward's Stunt Tournament, taking on some of the top-ranked teams in the country.
Ashland opened the tournament on Friday with a pair of massive wins, outlasting #13 Texas Woman’s University in a 30-23 shootout before taking down the #7-ranked Division I program, Central Arkansas, 29-16.
On Saturday, the Eagles faced their toughest test of the year against #1 Oklahoma Baptist. OBU showed exactly why they hold the top spot, defeating Ashland 29-5. However, true to form, the Eagles immediately bounced back in the afternoon, securing a nail-biting 21-20 victory over #12 St. Mary's to finish the weekend 3-1. The Eagles now sit at a stellar 13-5 overall.
#9 Tiffin Splits Home Tri-Match with #7 Davenport and Ursuline
The 9th-ranked Tiffin Dragons closed out the home portion of their schedule on Saturday by hosting a G-MAC tri-match at the Heminger Center.
Tiffin opened the day with a dominant defensive showcase against conference foe Ursuline, shutting out the Arrows to secure an 11-0 victory.
In their second game of the day, Tiffin faced off against the reigning G-MAC champions, #7 Davenport. The undefeated Panthers proved too much for the Dragons to handle, rolling to a 27-4 victory to maintain their perfect conference record. The split moves Tiffin to 11-5 overall and 5-3 in G-MAC play.
Walsh Drops Mid-Week Contest
The Walsh Cavaliers hosted Muskingum University for a mid-week non-conference clash on Wednesday, March 4. In a tightly contested battle, Muskingum managed to pull away late, dealing Walsh a 22-17 defeat on their home mat. The Cavaliers also traveled for weekend matchups against Mercyhurst and Hiram College as they look to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
