MIDLAND, Mich. – The No. 1 seeded Northwood Timberwolves claimed their first ever G-MAC Women’s Basketball Tournament title on Saturday afternoon. The Timberwolves earned the 64-53 victory over the No. 2 seeded Malone Pioneers.
Northwood controlled the game from start to finish having never trailed in the Championship match-up and finished the historic day having shot 41.1% (23-56) from the field. On the defensive end the Timberwolves limited the Pioneers to shoot 35.4% (23-65) from the field, including 3-17 from beyond the arc.
The offensive charge for the Timberwolves were led by three scorers who reached double digits in Leah Holmes (19), Karie Keefer (12), and Maeve St. John (11). Malone’s scoring was highlighted by Elena Oliver’s 19 points, sharing the game high with Northwood’s Holmes.
With the victory, the Timberwolves claim the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Tournament. Malone and Thomas More both were featured in the recent regional rankings and await their fate on Sunday night’s selection show at 10:30 p.m. ET. The NCAA selection show can be streamed HERE.
