CANTON, Ohio – Starting in fall of 2024, Leyna Heather became a sports information graduate assistant at Malone University. During her time, she has gained insight on much of the behind the scenes in intercollegiate athletics.
 
Over the past two years, Leyna has learned her desire for a future career in college athletics. During her undergrad she was unsure exactly what to do with a Sport Business degree. The graduate assistant position at Malone offered her experience and knowledge to figure out her goals. Matthew Kennell, Malone’s Sports Information Director, has gave Leyna much of this valuable experience, including running stats, writing recaps, and much more.
 
With graduation in May, she looks forward to working in college athletics. Coming into Malone she was a little worried of what to expect but now as the end of her experience nears, she leaves with more knowledge and confidence in what she wants to do hoping to land a job. She says, “I must thank the Malone athletic office, community, coaches, athletes, and God for such an amazing experience. Without this opportunity and such great support I would not be where I am today.”
