INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for January 12th, 2026 are based on student-athlete performance from January 5th, 2025- January 11th, 2026.
 
Men’s Basketball
Fatih Huyuk / Kentucky Wesleyan College/ Sr. / Forward / Hatay, Turkey
Kentucky Wesleyan’s Fatih Huyuk averaged 17.7 points and 8.7 rebounds on 80% shooting from the field, helping the Panthers finish the week 2-1. The senior forward ended the week with a double-double as the Panthers took down Northwood. Huyuk had 12 points and 11 rebounds on 6-9 shooting as the Panthers secured the victory.
 
Women’s Basketball
Maeve St. John/ Northwood University / Sr./ Guard / Howell, Mich.
Northwood’s Maeve St. John had a huge week averaging 26.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 3.7 steals in 3 G-MAC games this week. She scored a career-high 34 points in a win over Malone, marking the highest total by any G-MAC player this season, and added a perfect 12-12 performance from the foul line. St. John also became the 21st player in program history to reach the 1,000 point milestone.
 
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Emily Mears-Bentley / University of Findlay/ Sr. / Leicester, England
Findlay Oiler Emily Mears-Bentley won both the 200 (2:04.81) and 100 (56.15) butterfly, the 200 was a B Cut.  Despite the Oilers loss, she aided in the Oilers 74 points to the University of Indianapolis' 201.
 
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Sebastian Camacho / University of Findlay/ Fr. / Cali, Colombia
Findlay Oiler Sebastian Camacho won the 1000 freestyle (9:13.31 | NCAA B Cut) and the 500 freestyle (4:25.32 | NCAA B Cut).  Despite the Oilers loss, he aided in the Oilers finding 89 points to the University of Indianapolis' 191.
 
 
Wrestling
Micah Cottrell / University of Findlay/ So. / Cincinnatti, Ohio
Findlay Oiler Micah Cottrell aided in the Oilers going 3-1 at the Virginia Duals.  Cottrell found a perfect 4-0 weekend that included a 18-1 tech fall win, an 11-1 major decision, a 15-3 major decision and a pin (2:49 in the final dual against Glenville St.
