8.21.25

INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest released the preseason poll for the 2025 volleyball season, as voted on by the league’s coaches. Findlay, Cedarville, and Ashland were voted as the division favorites for this upcoming season. The Oilers and Yellow Jackets received a league-high 10 first-place votes apiece.

Findlay, 23-9 in 2024, won their first G-MAC title last season and went on to advance to the Midwest Regional Championship. The Oilers return three first team all-conference selections in Alana Pohlman, Emma White, and Hannah Miller. White was voted MVP at last year’s conference championship after leading the league in assists with 1,377 at 11.29 per set. White went on to earn American Volleyball Coach’s Association (AVCA) honorable mention all-American honors as well as first team all-Region honors. Pohlman returns for the Oilers after recording the league’s third-highest hitting percentage at .330. Junior Hannah Miller is another top-returner after appearing and starting in all 33 matches during her sophomore season. She led the conference with 477 kills at 3.91 per set. The Oilers snapped the Hillsdale Chargers’ seven straight G-MAC championship streak and advanced to the regional final before falling to Ferris State in a 3-2 battle.

Hillsdale was voted to finish second in the North Division followed by Northwood in third. The Timberwolves will look to replace 2024 Player of the Year Sydney Hasenfratz but return all-conference setter Renee Brines. Tiffin rounds out the North Division under first-year head coach Cary Clark.

In the South, Cedarville was voted to finish first, followed by Ohio Dominican in second. All-Conference outside hitter Madelyn Henley returns for the Yellow Jackets after an outstanding Sophomore season. Henley ranked third in the league in kills with 382 at 4.02 per set. Middle hitter Janae Heegaard also returns for Cedarville after being voted second team all-conference last season. The duo led the Yellow Jackets to a 10-5 conference record and South Division Title in 2024. Ohio Dominican was slotted second followed by Thomas More and Kentucky Wesleyan. ODU advanced to the G-MAC championship last season after upsetting No. 2 Northwood and No. 6 Walsh.

Great Midwest coaches voted Ashland to finish first in the East Region. The Eagles nearly edged Walsh by just one point in the preseason poll. 2024 Freshman of the Year Samantha Young will return for Ashland after starting in all 30 matches during her first college season. Young ended her rookie season with 280 kills, 260 digs, 36 blocks, 31 service aces, and 23 assists. The Eagles also return a depth of talent with four all-conference selections set to return. First team libero Abbey Queen set a new single-season digs record for the Eagles with 624 last season. She also added 74 assists and 18 service aces on the year. Walsh earned five first-place votes in the preseason poll with one of the league’s top outsider hitters Sammie DiBease set to return. DiBease ranked second in the league in kills with 454 on the year at 3.91 per set. DiBease and the Cavaliers upset the No. 3 seeded Ashland Eagles to advance to the conference semifinals last season. Lake Erie, Malone, and Ursuline round out teams in the East Region.

The 2025 season is set to begin on September 5 with 21 non-conference matches taking place.
