INDIANAPOLIS- Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Commissioner Tom Daeger has announced Gary Berkowitz as the league’s first Supervisor of Wrestling Officials. Berkowitz will assume the role for the 2025-26 season and provide the conference supervision of the league’s wrestling officials, including hiring, assigning, training, and evaluation.
"We are thankful to partner with Gary as our first Supervisor of Wrestling Officials as we continue efforts to support our officiating platform," said Commissioner Tom Daeger. "He has provided great service to the majority of our membership over the last several years working independently to assign their officials. We look forward to providing more uniformity across the league in wrestling with this new partnership."
Berkowitz, a registered official under both Illinois High School Association (IHSA) and Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) for over 50 years, has officiated 10 OHSAA state championships and wrote a number of articles published by the National Federation of High Schools (NFHS). He also co-authored and produced curriculum used for the Ohio’s new official training imitative and was recognized by the NFHS for contributions having impacted high school wrestling. The Medina, Ohio native was inducted into the Ohio Wrestling Officials Hall of Fame in 2003.
He has been a registered NCAA wrestling official for 13 years having worked assignments at various levels. In addition to the Great Midwest, Berkowitz serves as the Coordinator of Wrestling Officials for the Mountain East, Michigan Intercollegiate, Ohio Athletic, Heartland Collegiate Athletic, and Wolverine-Hoosier Conferences.
