ASHLAND, Ohio- The Great Midwest Outdoor Track & Field Championship trophies went to both the Ashland men and women. This is the first outdoor title for both programs since joining the G-MAC in 2021.
The women finished with 209 team points 41 points ahead of runner-up Findlay. The men collected 194 points, while second place Tiffin finished with 164 points.
Ashland’s Molly Winner was the highest-point getter for the Eagles, placing first in both the hammer throw and shot put. In addition to Winner, Abby Wheeler, Hailey Rios, Aniya Seward, and Lily Dowdell took home the gold in their respective events.
The Ashland men placed in the top three of 12 events, including four first place finishes by Caden Morris (long jump), Garrett Baker (Pole Vault), Nate Slater (1,500m ) 4x100 relay team, and men’s 4x400
Findlay’s Kylie Ray was the Track Athlete of the Meet after taking home the gold in the 400 Hurdles and placing third in the 100 hurdles. Ray was also a member of the first place 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay teams.
Averi Parker from Hillsdale was the Field Athlete of the Meet with a first place finish in the Discus, heaving a mark of 45.98m. Parker went on to place second in the shot put (14.71m) and hammer throw (57.27m).
For the men, Joshua Page of Tiffin and Ben Haas of Hillsdale earned Track Athlete and Field Athlete of the Meet, respectively. Page clocked a 400 tine of 46.25 to take home first place followed by another first place finish in the 200 with a time of 20.51. Haas took home the gold in both the shot put (18.12m) and hammer throw (64.53m). Both Haas and Page were crowned national champions during the indoor season.
Walsh’s Joel Brown earned Freshman of the Meet honors for the men. Brown placed third in the long jump, registering a mark of 7.05m.
In the next week, Great Midwest track & field coaches will compete at last chance meets to improve their athletes’ chances at the upcoming national championships. The NCAA meet will run May 22-24 in Pueblo, Colorado.
