Boulder City, Nev. – The University of Findlay women's golf team, ranked fifth in the country in the latest Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA), wrapped up the 2024-25 campaign in the quarterfinals of medal match play at the NCAA DII National Championship on Friday, May 16 at Boulder Creek Golf Club near Las Vegas, Nevada. After finishing stroke play in fourth, the Oilers were matched up against Anderson University (SC) in the first round. Anderson, the top-ranked team in the country, concluded the stroke play segment of the tournament in fifth and went on to defeat Findlay by a score of 3.5-1.5.

This is the sixth consecutive time that the Oilers have been among the final eight teams left in the country. Findlay and Dallas Baptist, which finished first in stroke play, are the only two programs in the country to have earned a trip to medal match play each year since the format was initiated in 2019.

First out for the Oilers at 7:04 am off the tenth tee was junior Hayley Dye. She fired an opening-nine 37, but trailed by three at the turn as AU's Kennedy McGaha, the seventh-ranked player in DII, was two under. McGaha would go on to earn a six shot win, carding a 71 to Dye's 77.

Junior Ellie Yeazell, who fired 68 in each of her last two rounds of stroke play, trailed by two through her first nine holes and trailed by four with six holes to play. She flipped the match midway through her back nine, getting one shot back with a birdie on the fifth, her 14th hole, and gaining three shots with a birdie on the seventh, her 16th. Yeazell went on to claim the lone win of the quarterfinal for the Oilers, posting a 71 (-1) to win by a shot.

In Match #3, sophomore Ashleigh Duflo shot 37 on each of her two nines to post a 74 (+2) for the day. Duflo trailed by three through 11 holes, but both she and Aly Francis of Anderson made par of each of the final seven holes to wrap up the match.

With two points on the board, Anderson needed just one more to secure the victory.

Senior Mary Kelly Mulcahy was battling Kennedy Gooding all morning and the duo turned in the most competitive match of the day. Mulcahy held a one shot lead through nine holes, making birdie on holes 3, 4, and 8, but Gooding never went away. Mulcahy's lead went to two a couple of times of the back, the last of which came after a birdie on the seventh, her 16th, hole. However, on the tricky final hole, Mulcahy's ball ran out of the fairway into a hazard, leading to a bogey. Gooding answered with a birdie to tie the match. Both players finished with rounds of 70 (-2).

That birdie was essentially the final blow to the Oilers as, with 2.5 points secured, Anderson would likely hold the total strokes tiebreaker.

Senior Erin Mulcahy was the final player off for the Oilers, just as she was three years prior in her first national championship appearance where she clinched the program's only DII title. E. Mulcahy trailed by two strokes through ten holes, but back-to-back birdies on 15 and 16 tied the match. On the final hole, Anderson's Zoey Iglesias made birdie to earn the one-shot victory, officially sealing the win for the Trojans which will advance to take on Dallas Baptist in the afternoon's semifinals.

This concludes the 2024-25 season for the women's golf program which finishes tied for fifth in DII. This year's team earned six tournament victories and boasted four individual tournament medalists.
