In honor of National Girls & Women In Sports Day, the Arrows hosted their second annual Arrows Youth Sports Clinic this past Sunday, February 2
nd.
Ursuline Athletics welcomed youth sport enthusiasts' grades K-8 to the Stano Athletic Center for year two of this fun and free event. Participants sampled the wide range of sports the Arrows sponsor. They spent time rotating through each station to play softball, flag football, cross country, track & field, lacrosse, tennis, stunt, golf, basketball, bowling, soccer and volleyball.
Senior Softball student-athlete, Evelyn Vallejo commented "It was awesome getting to see how there are many young girls who strive to play sports! Getting to meet these girls and hearing how much they love playing their sports brought warmth and a sense of joy. Knowing that we, as female collegiate athletes, can inspire these young prospects made me like doing what I do even more!"
Our Arrows student-athletes, coaches, and administrators enjoyed the day full of female empowerment, team comradery, and laughter as they truly embodied the essence of National Girls & Women In Sport Day.
Junior Lacrosse student-athlete Megan Yanke had her younger sister join in on the fun in 2024 and was excited to bring her back again for year two! She reflected "Seeing girls of all ages pick up a lacrosse stick for the first time and experience shooting the ball into the net at the NGWSD clinic has truly been so fulfilling as a player who was once standing where they were. Not to mention the excitement from my little sister being able to experience new sports last year, then encouraging her friends to tag along this year and see what other kinds of sports and opportunities are out there for them as young women."
The Arrows NGWSD Clinic was one of six events that took place in the state of Ohio for National Girls & Women in Sports Day (#NGWSD).
The Day is devoted to recognizing the progress of girls and women in sports, and the benefits that sports and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. The Day is powered by the Women's Sports Foundation who is celebrating their 50th anniversary this year!
The Arrows would like to extend a special thank you to the Orange Community Recreation & Education Department for their partnership on this event! We also would like to thank our on-campus partner, the Ursuline College Women's Center, who provided fun sports themed activities and raffle prizes for participants!
