HILLSDALE, Mich.- The No. 7 seed Malone University won their second Great Midwest Men’s Basketball title Saturday Afternoon with a 76-63 win over No. 4 Thomas More University. Malone’s Tre Baumgardner III led the Pioneers just short of a double-double with 25 points and nine rebounds.
Malone (16-15, 9-11) will earn the automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA tournament.
Both teams fought hard with seven lead changes throughout the contest.
The Pioneers enjoyed a 50.0 FG%, shooting 26-52 on the day.
In addition to Baumgardner, three more Pioneers scored in double-digits. Ryan Bartley was 7-13 on the day, finishing with 20 points. Simon Blair and Caleb Conrad added 16 and 15 points, respectively. Blair also dished-out a game-high eight assists.
For Thomas More, first-team all-conference selection Casey George led the Saints with 18 points. Freshman of the Year Kai Simpson was one rebound short of a double-double with 17 points and nine rebounds.
Teams will await their postseason destiny following the NCAA Selection Show, set for March 9 at 11 P.M. ET.
