INDIANAPOLIS- Ashland’s Maceo Williams earned Great Midwest Athletic Conference Player of the Year to highlight this year’s men’s basketball all-conference award list. Williams was the league’s leading scorer, averaging 20.6 points per game this season, while shooting 63.8% from the field.
Thomas More’s Kai Simpson was voted by the league’s coaches as the Great Midwest’s top freshman. Simpson averaged 13.5 points while starting in 25 games for the saints.
Charlie Ernst, who coaches the Oilers to a regular season title, was voted the Great Midwest Coach of the Year.
Student-athletes from nine schools were represented as either first or second team all conference.
Kentucky Wesleyan landed a league-high three student-athletes on the first-team, followed by Findlay and Hillsdale with two apiece.
The Panthers earned the No. 2 seed in the conference championship with a G-MAC record of 16-4. The trio of Logan McIntire, Kennedy Miles, and Edward Jones Jr., were all voted to the first-team. McIntire ranks ninth in the league in scoring with 14.0 points per game and earned athlete of the week honors earlier this season. Miles leads the conference in assists with 122 on the year and 4.4 per game. Jones Jr. ranks fifth in field-goal percentage, shooting 50.5% during the regular season.
Will Aljancic and Jagger Landers are the first-team selections from Findlay. The duo led the Oilers to their third regular season title with a conference record of 17-3. Aljancic leads Findlay in scoring and rebounding with 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest. Landers, a junior forward, scored 10.4 points per game and grabbed a total of 125 rebounds this season.
From Hillsdale, Joe Reuter and Charles Woodhams represent the Chargers as first-team honorees. Woodhams leads the Chargers in scoring with 13.7 points per game, shooting nearly 50% from the field. Reuter started in all 29 games for the Chargers, averaging 11.3 points per game. Woodhams and Reuter helped the Chargers earn the No. 3 seed in the tournament.
The No. 4 seed Thomas More saw Casey George as a first-team selection. George is fifth in the conferecnce in scoring at 15.6 points per game. After defeating No. 5 Lake Erie, the Saints are set to take on No. 8 Cedarville in the semifinals.
Simon Blair from Malone rounds out first-team honorees. Blair and the Pioneers are coming off of a huge upset over No. 2 Kentucky Wesleyan to advance to Friday’s semifinals. Blair poured in 24 points, shooting 9-18 from the field in the upset. This season, he ranks fourth in the league in scoring at 16.0 points per game.
Hillsdale will be the host for this weekend’s Great Midwest Basketball Championship as the No. 3 Chargers host No. 7 Malone.
No. 4 Thomas More has No. 8 Cedarville for their third meeting of the season.
