15 Great Midwest Wrestlers Qualify for Nationals

INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest will send 15 wrestlers to the NCAA Division II National Championships. The championship tournament will be held March 14-15 in Indianapolis.
 
Ashland had a league-high eight wrestlers qualify for the national meet, followed by Tiffin with four and Lake Erie with three. Athletes can qualify for the national tournament by placing in the top three at the Super Regional meet.
 
Four G-MAC student-athletes took home the gold at the regional event. At 125 lbs., Anthony Aniciete found himself atop the podium after a dominant performance that included tech falls of 16-0, 20-3, 4-1, and finally a 4-2 win over Ashland’s Luke Acuna who also qualified for nationals. The conference also saw Lake Erie’s Christian Small and Jack Haskin win their respective weight classes. Small qualified at 141, while Haskin took home the gold at 165. Tiffin’s Casey Barnett rounds out first-place finishers from the league. Barnett dominated at 157, picking up a wins by fall in 2:26 over Salem, 3-0 over Ashland, and an 8-2 victory over Glenville State to win the title.
 
In addition to Acuna Ashland wrestlers Brock Durbin (141), Hayden Kuhn (149), Lance Overmyer (157), Nate Barrett (165), Sevriana Garza (174), Kaine Morris (197), and Wyatt Bailey (285) also qualified for the national championship event.
 
The league dominated in the 165 lbs. weight class as Jack Haskin, Nolan Gessler, and Nate Barnett swept all three places.
 
Tiffin’s Max Shore rounds out national qualifiers from the G-MAC after finishing third at 133 lbs.
 
The national bracket will be revealed on Friday, March 7 at Noon ET.
