INDIANAPOLIS- Following the holiday break, Great Midwest wrestling programs began in-conference competition.
The Oilers started the week off hot with a 40-7 victory over Thomas More. Billy Smith, Micah Cotrell, AJ Parish, Zachary Taylor, Donavyn Watts, and Guilian Bodiu each beat their opponents. Bodiu, who is ranked No. 11 nationally, registered a pin in only 1:17.
Despite falling the Findlay, Thomas More bounced back Saturday with a win over Davenport. Junior Cole Thomas defeated Lucas Nagle at 141 lbs with a fall in 2:22. Ethan Kuhns, Nathan Kulbe, Kailan Keith, Wade Mettling, and Joseph Scarborough each went on to claim victories on the day.
Ashland opened conference play with statement wins over Kentucky Wesleyan and Lake Erie. The Eagles received on-mat victories from Sevriano Garza (174 lbs.), Peyton Lemon (197 lbs.), and Wyatt Bailey (285 lbs.). Ashland defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 52-0 and went on to collect a win over the Storm by a score of 26-11.
Tiffin and Lake Erie grabbed one conference win apiece. The Dragons beat the Storm 25-16, which included a Cael Woods upset over Lake Erie’s Anthony Sagaris. Josh Howey had a stellar week for the Storm, that included a 4-0 individual record with wins by pin (1:21), tech fall (15-0), major decision (15-5), and a sudden victory.
