INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for December  8th, 2025 are based on student-athlete performance from December 1st, 2025- December 7th, 2025.
 
Men’s Basketball
Cooper Davis / Ashland University/ Jr. / Guard / Powell, Ohio
Ashland Eagles Cooper Davis set a new personal collegiate standard as the Eagles won over the Northwood Timberwolves, 85-81, during their conference opener.  He ended career highs with 36 points, seven three-point field goals made and 11 total field goals made while also adding five rebounds.
 
 
Women’s Basketball
Maeve St. John/ Northwood University/ Sr./ Guard / Howell, Mich.
Northwood Timberwolves Maeve St. John averaged 23.5 points, six rebounds, four steals and 3.5 assists per game in the Timberwolves two road victories; additionally, she shot 55.6% from the field, 54.4% from three and 91.7% at the line.  St. John now has scored 32 points in the last two weeks, both being the highest single-game totals in the conference this season.
 
 
Men’s Indoor Field
Ben Haas / Hillsdale College/ Sr. / Clarkson, Mich.
During the GVSU Holiday Open, Hillsdale Chargers Ben Haas found a second place finish, among collegiate competitors, in the weight throw with a throw of 21.33 meters and fourth in the shot put with a throw of 17.24 meters, earning provisional and qualifying marks.  His weight throw leads the conference and is second in the nation; additionally, his shot put ranks second in the conference and fourth in the nation.
 
 
Men’s Indoor Track
Jon Lutz / Ashland University/ Fr. / Celina, Ohio
Ashland Eagles Jon Lutz opened the season at the Saginaw Valley State Open as he finished second in the men’s 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.01, tying with former Eagles Trevor Bassit’s program freshman indoor record.  He currently is No.8-ranked in Division II in the men’s 60-meter hurdles.
 
 
Women’s Indoor Field  
Molly Winner / Ashland University/ Jr. / Yorkshire, Ohio
At the Saginaw Valley STate Holiday Open Ashland Eagles Molly Winner won both the women’s shot put at 15.22 meters and the women’s weight throw at 21.12 meters, earning provisional marks .  Winner is No.1-ranked in the women’s weight throw and No.5-ranked in the women’s shot put.
 
 
Women’s Indoor Track 
Anna Roessner / Hillsdale College/ Fr. / Fort Recovery, Ohio
Hillsdale Chargers Anna Roessner won the GVSU Holiday Open 60-meter dash with a time of 7.41.  Her prelim time in the dash was 7.36, a top time in the division to date alongside a program and conference record.  She also posted the second fastest 200-meter dash time in the conference with 24.81 to finish third in the event at the open.
 
 
Wrestling
Josh Howey / Lake Erie College/ RS- Jr. / Detroit, Mich.
Lake Erie Storm's Josh Howey was an anchor for the Storm as he went 4-0 earning wins by pin (1.21), technical fall (15-0, major decision (15-5) and a gritty sudden victory.
