INDIANAPOLIS- Great Midwest Wrestling programs competed at the Midwest Classic last weekend, with Tiffin having the highest team finish in a tie for fourth place.
Six dragons went undefeated at the event, with Nolan Gessler leading the way at 165-pounds. Gessler won his weight class and won the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the event after defeating opponents from Wheeling, Kentucky Wesleyan, Grand Valley, Gannon, Parkside, and Lander. The highlight of the event was the sophomore’s upset over Lander’s two-time national champion in David Hunsberger. The Dragons are ranked No. 8 in the latest Open Mat rankings.
Ashland tabbed a top-10 finish with 86.5 team points. Hayden Kuhn (149) and Sevriano Garza (174) each finished runner-up in their respective weight classes.
