INDIANAPOLIS - As the Great Midwest volleyball championship semifinals approach, the G-MAC All-Conference Volleyball Teams were announced following a vote by the leagues’ coaches.
The coaches' votes determined a total of 24 student-athletes on this year’s all-conference teams. Each team consists of two liberos/defensive specialists, four outside hitters/middle hitters and two setters.
Individual awards include Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year ,Coach of the Year, and the Elite 26 Award for academic excellence.
Findlay’s Emma White was announced as Great Midwest Player of the Year. White leads the conference in assists, averaging 11.86 average through 94 sets. She also leads in aces at .51 per set.
Alongside White, her following teammates were also named first-team honorees: Makenna Belcher and Lauren Foerster. Belcher currently leads the Oilers in kills at 3.87 per set. Foerster ranks in the top 10 in the league in hitting percentage (.345) and kills per set (3.14)
Being awarded the Freshman of the Year is Walsh’s Kameron Stover. Stover leads the conference in kills, averaging 4.30 through 105 sets, and points, finding 507 through 105 sets. In her rookie campaign, Stover has been awarded the East Division Athlete of the Week five times and led the Cavaliers to a divisional title with an overall record of 20-10.
Voted by his peers was Cedarville Yellow Jackets Head Coach Greg Smith for Coach of the Year. Smith has led his time to being at the top of the South Division with a conference record of 14-1 and an overall record of 23-5. Also, clinching the number one overall seed for the Great Midwest tournament. He led the following players to first-team selections: Madelyn Hensley, Alivia Rutt, Janae Heegaard, Haley Koch and Kaley Matney. Hensely ranks in the top four in both kills per set (3.81) and points per set (4.32). Haley Koch is this year’s Elite 26 Award Winner. Koch, who averages 1.09 blocks per set, is a senior majoring in exercise science.
The Ohio Dominican Panthers are seeded No.3 with Grace Zinchuk making All-Conference First Team. Zinchuk ranks seventh in the league in overall hitting percentage at .328%. She also is sixth in blocks per set at .89. ODU is set to face the No. 2 seed Findlay.
Hillsdale’s Adi Sysum is the lone first-team honoree from Hillsdale. Sysum holds a hitting percentage of .379 through 95 sets played. Sysum and the Chargers finished the regular season with an overall record of 14-11 and a conference record of 11-4.
