TIFFIN, Ohio- The Great Midwest Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship continued Thursday, November 13
th with Kentucky Wesleyan and Tiffin set to advance to the championship finale.
The first match of the day took place early Thursday morning as the No. 3 seeded Panthers upset No. 2 Cedarville. Both defenses were on display as the two remained scoreless through the first half. KWC’s Nicklas Henriksen found the back of the net at the 52:00-minute mark to put the Panthers ahead1-0. First-team all-conference selection Haakon Torvbraaten was credited with the assist. The Panther defense stood their ground for the remainder of the game to advance to the championship final. Goalkeeper Iver Sjavag earned the win in net with five saves through 90 minutes of play.
The next match of the day was between the hosts Tiffin and their cross-town rival Findlay. Much like the first match, both teams remained scoreless through the first 45 minutes. Tiffin’s Sebastian Alvarez connected with Yaw Turkson to put the Dragons on the board at the 48-minute mark. Less than ten minutes later, Anelson Azard extended the lead 2-0 with an assist by Tate Newman. The league’s top defense in Tiffin gave up just four shots on goal as Freshman goalkeeper Nick Cherry recorded four saves and tabbed his 12
th shutout of the year. Cherry currently leads all of Division II in shutouts.
Tiffin and Kentucky Wesleyan will vie for the 2025 Men’s Soccer Championship title Saturday at 1 P.M. ET. The two met just once during the regular season that ended in a 0-0 draw.
