OVERVIEW:

Great Midwest football programs entered week five of play. The highlight of the week being the

Ashland Eagles shutting out the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in a final score of 55-0.

GAME HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Northwood Timberwolves move to 4-1 after defeating the now 2-2 Ohio Dominican Panthers in a final score of 28-3.  The Timberwolves opened the game with a 75-yard, 12-play drive capped by Timberwolves Trent Holl’s one-yard touchdown that allowed an early 7-0 lead. To solidify the win in the fourth quarter, the Timberwolves scored their third touchdown connection of the game, a short three-yard strike to lock in the 28-3 final.

  • The Findlay Oilers moved to 5-0 overall while the Walsh Cavaliers moved to 4-1 after the Oilers took down the Cavaliers in a final score of 31-10.  Denny Furlong aided in ensuring the Oilers remained undefeated.  Furlong found eight receptions for 156-yards and three touchdowns (23, 29, 51 yards).  He’s the first receiver at Findlay to have 150+ receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns in a game since 1999. The Oilers cracked the top 20 at No. 19 in the latest AFCA poll.

  • The Tiffin Dragons took down the Hillsdale Chargers in a tight final score of 28-21.  After trailing 21-14 at halftime, the Dragons scored on back-to-back possessions in the third quarter. Tiffin’s Alex Johnson scrambled right and hit Ethan Holbrook who broke a tackle and sprinted 69-yards down the sideline to tie the game 21-21 with 9:59 left. The Dragons solidified the victory when Alex Johnson connected with Javier Wills for an 87-yard touchdown on their second play of the third quarter that held the final score heading into the fourth.

  • The Ashland Eagles blew out the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers in a final score of 55-0, moving the Eagles to 4-1 and the Panthers 0-5.  This marked the Eagles first shutout since a 35-0 scoring against Walsh on Oct. 8 of 2022.  The Eagles out-gained the Panthers 503-93 while also having their best game with 241 yards rushing since Nov. 2, 2024 against Lake Erie (334).  Ashland is ranked No. 24 in the latest AFCA poll.

  • The Lake Erie Storm beat the Thomas More Saints in a final score of 21-15, giving the Storm their first victory of the season. The Storm took a 7-5 halftime lead on a Wrentie Martin touchdown pass to Makhi Jackson and extended it to 14-5 early in the third quarter.  After the Saints surged ahead 15-14, linebacker Christian Idoma’s scoop-and-score turned the tide for good.  The Storm defense held strong in the final minutes to secure the victory.
