CEDARVILLE, Ohio - More than 1,300 kids from Dayton area schools came to campus to enjoy a Lady Jacket basketball game during CU's first-ever Elementary Day.

A total attendance of 1,642 fans turned out for the 11:00 a.m. tip off on December 9 as Cedarville battled former NAIA rival Shawnee State.

"We have been looking forward to this opportunity to promote our basketball program to local elementary and middle school students," stated Head Coach Addy Miller.

"Many of these kids will never have the opportunity to attend a women's college basketball game. It's also a chance to introduce them to who we are at Cedarville University."

Each student in attendance received an education packet that included a voucher to a future Yellow Jacket game, an activity book, and a glow stick that was used during a halftime light show.

The Troy Pop Rocks jump rope team provided halftime entertainment. CU coaches and student-athletes hosted the kids and sat with them during the game.

Alyssa Beals, Director of Marketing and Sponsorships, added, "This game joins our Yellow Jacket Virtual Reading Program which is disseminated to 52 classrooms throughout 15 elementary schools as another community engagement piece that is a priority for the athletic department."
