FINDLAY, Ohio- The first winter G-MAC championship is set to take place this weekend as the University of Findlay will host the 2025 Wrestling Championship on Saturday, Jan. 25
Matches are set to begin at 10:00 A.M. ET. Coaches will rank eight wrestlers per weight class, with six being seeded. After the top six are selected, wrestlers will be randomly drawn into a bracket.
Brackets on TrackWrestling will be released following the coaches meeting and will be updated in real time for the duration of the tournament. Each school was permitted to submit two (2) entries per weight class and the top advancing wrestler will count towards the team point scoring totals.
The Great Midwest is well-represented on an individual level in various Division II national rankings published this season. The National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) recognizes 14 wrestlers from the league in their respective weight class rankings.
Tiffin enters Saturday’s championship match with the highest team ranking at No. 9. Head Coach Antonio Guerra currently has five wrestlers ranked in the top-15 of their weight class. Leading the way in the 165 lbs. weight class is sophomore Nolan Gessler. Gessler is ranked second in his weight class with a 14-4 record on the year and has outscored his opponents 58.5- 6 this season. Sophomore Max Shore is third in the 133 lbs. weight class with an 18-5 record. Anthony Aniciete, Casey Barnett, and Jakob Hurley have also found success this season for the Dragons. Anciete finds himself ranked No. 6 at 125 lbs., while Barnett and Hurley sit at No. 15 in their respective weight classes.
Lake Erie and Ashland also find themselves in the national poll. The Storm sit at No. 15 with two individuals ranked at the national level. Christian Small is ranked second at 141 lbs. with an overall record of 16-4. Small has outscored opponents 81-15 so far this season and has registered seven pins. Jack Haskin holds a record of 13-2 this season and is ranked fourth in the 165 lbs. weight class.
The Eagles are the reigning G-MAC champions and enter Saturday ranked No. 21. Six individuals are ranked at the national level including Luke Acuna (125 lbs.), Brock Turbin (141 lbs.), Nate Barrett (165 lbs.), Sevi Garza (174 lbs.), Peyton Lemon (184 lbs.), and Kaine Morris (197 lbs.). Ashland will look to claim their fourth Great Midwest Wrestling title.
