Kicking off this cold winter week, Ursuline student-athletes and athletics staff celebrated Martin Luther King Jr Day by giving back to the local community. The Arrows volunteered on Ursuline College MLK Day of Service at several local assisted living facilities.
The Arrows were dispersed over 5 different locations serving our senior citizens and others at assisted living. These locations were within our local community, including Cedarwood Plaza, Cedar Center of Living, Highland Pointe Health & Rehab Center, and Merici Crossings.
"Our student-athletes arrived and jumped right in engaging in conversation and activities with our senior neighbors. Despite being strangers when we walked in the door, their conversations ranged from majors, career goals and the most popular topic of conversation-the College Football Playoff match-up later that night." Ursuline College Assistant Athletic Director for Community Engagement, Kelly Russell, commented.
Ursuline College Assistant Vice President, Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging – Yolanda King reflected on the day; "During these volunteer encounters our students get just as much out of the visits as the residents. It's a chance to make a difference in someone's life and live the College's mission of service, leadership, and professional excellence."
"As only they can, our student-athletes brought a special energy and enthusiasm to each community room and left our neighbors with smiles and warm memories of the day." Russell said.
