INDIANAPOLIS—After winning its sixth consecutive Great Midwest title, individuals from the University of Findlay headlined the end of the year awards, as voted on by the league’s coaches.
Mary Kelly Mulcahy was voted the Golfer of the Year and is joined by teammate Ashleigh Duflo as the Freshman of the Year.
Mulcahy had a record-breaking season, earning seven individual wins this season. She is the No. 2 ranked golfer in D2 and earned medalist status at the conference championship after shooting rounds of 72-72-70 to finish with a score of 214. Earlier this month, the junior was selected as the one non-D1 golfer to participate in the prestigious Arnold Palmer Cup.
Duflo, a native of Ada, Mich., earned three top-five finishes during her collegiate debut. She is ranked No. 12 in the region with an average of 75.85. Duflo is the highest-rated freshman in the league.
Dom Guiarnieri was voted the Coach of the Year after wining the conference for the sixth straight year. In his 11
th year at Findlay, Guiarnieri landed his entire top five individuals on the all-conference list. The Oilers are ranked No. 3 in the latest WGCA coaches poll and earned a bid to the East Regional as the No. 1 team.
The Elite 26 award winner is Ohio Dominican’s Abbey Dillon. Dillon was awarded the award for the second consecutive as a senior majoring in Psychology.
Ashland, Findlay, and Ohio Dominican as well as Tiffin’s Lisa Marie Schumacher and Walsh’s Sydney Hugo will make their way to Indianapolis for the East Regional, scheduled for May 6-8.
