Northwood Captures First G-MAC Softball Title

AKRON, Ohio- Northwood University was crowned the 2024 Great Midwest Softball Champion for the first time in program history Saturday afternoon.
 
The Timberwolves, seeded fourth in bracket, went 3-0 at Firestone Stadium, including an upset over No. 1 Trevecca.
 
Northwood defeated the Oilers in the opening game of the tournament by a score of 5-2. The Timberwolves then went on to beat No. 1 Trevecca and No. 6 Cedarville to lock in a spot in the championship game.
 
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings before a Delanie Gale single put the Timberwolves ahead 1-0. The Oilers answered in the top of the sixth with an Alexys Antal single to center field to tie the game at 1-1.
 
Northwood’s Brittany Steimel, Delanie Gale, and Gabby Schloop each connected on one hit apiece. Emily Cox pitched a complete game for the Timberwolves, giving up just four hits and one run.
 
Northwood (35-18, 17-9) will be the Great Midwest automatic qualifier in the NCAA Division II Softball Championship. The 2024 Softball selection show is scheduled for May 9 at 10 A.M. ET.
