OWENSBORO, Ky. – Findlay claims its sixth-straight Great Midwest Women’s Golf Championship after beating Ashland 4-1 in 18 holes of head-to-head medal play.
Gabby Woods led the way for the Oilers on Saturday shooting a 70 (-2) to beat her opponent by nine strokes, the largest margin of the medal round.
Erin Mulcahy and Ashleigh Duflo recorded rounds of 73 (+1) to win their matches by eight and six strokes respectively. Mary Kelly Mulcahy rounded out the Findlay victories shooting a 75 (+3) to beat her opponent by four strokes.
Ashland’s lone match was won by Riley McKenzie winning by a six-stroke margin. McKenzie sealed her match on hole 17 with an eagle.
Findlay qualified for the head-to-head medal play match after winning the 54-hole stroke play portion of the tournament with a total score of 881. The Oilers placed four golfers in the top five of the individual leaderboard. Gabby Woods, Erin Mulcahy and Ashleigh Duflo earned all-conference honors alongside teammate Mary Kelly Mulcahy who was named the individual medalist after scoring a 214 (-2). M.K. Mulcahy is the sixth straight individual conference champion for Findlay.
With the conference title, Findlay has earned the automatic qualification to the NCAA Midwest Regional which will be held at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana, May 6-8.
The compete tournament field including individual qualifiers will be announced on Monday, April 29 at 4 p.m. ET on NCAA.com.
