INDIANAPOLIS—The Great Midwest will send 13 wrestlers to the NCAA DII national championships. The championship tournament will be held March 15-16 in Wichita, Kansas.
Ashland had five wrestlers qualify for nationals, most of any Great Midwest school, followed by Tiffin and Lake Erie with four apiece. Athletes can qualify for the national tournament by placing in the top four at the Super Regional meet.
Four G-MAC student-athletes took home the gold at the regional event last weekend. At 125 lbs., Luke Acuna took home the gold, going 3-0 on the day. Also taking home a first-place finish from Ashland is Sevriano Garza at 165 lbs. Garza won via a major decision and two decisions. Drew Wiechers (157 lbs.), Nate Barrett (174 lbs.), and Daniel Beemer (184 lbs.) round out individual qualifiers from the reigning G-MAC champs.
Lake Erie’s Christian Small and Jack Haskin won their respective weight classes at 149 lbs. and 157 lbs., respectively. Ryan Wehner and Corey Gamet earned runner-up status at the regional event.
2023 national champion Zack Donathan from Tiffin found himself atop the podium at 141 lbs. Joining Donathan are teammates Anthony Anciete, Max Shore, and David Davis.
The national bracket will be revealed on Friday, March 8 at 12:30 P.M. ET.
