Donathan Voted Back-to-Back Wrestler of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS-  The Tiffin Dragons dominated the wrestling end of the year awards as Zack Donathan and Anthony Aniciete were voted the Wrestler of the Year and Freshman of the Year in a poll of the league’s head coaches. Colt Sponseller of Ashland and Boomer Fechko of Lake Erie shared Co-Coach of the Year honors.
 
Donathan was named the conference’s top wrestler for the second year in a row after another dominant 2024 season. He finished the season 25-0 and earned another national championship title at the 141 lbs. class. In addition to being a two-time national champion, Donathan is also a two-time first-team all-American after sporting a record of 39-1 during the last two seasons.
 
Anthony Aniciete had a standout debut season at Tiffin, authoring a 32-4 record. Aniciete won the 125 lbs. weight class at the conference championship and went on to qualify for nationals.
 
Both Colt Sponseller and Boomer Fechko were voted co-Coach of the Year after successful seasons on the mat.
 
In his fourth year at the helm of Ashland’s wrestling program, Sponseller won his third Great Midwest title since joining the conference in 2021. The Eagles landed four individuals on the all-conference list and had five student-athletes qualify for nationals.
 
For Fechko and the Storm, three wrestlers made the all-conference list, including Jack Haskin who went on to earn Wrestler of the Meet honors after winning the 157 lbs. weight class. Haskin, in addition to three others advanced to the NCAA tournament. Lake Erie posted a 7-7 team record this season and was consistently the highest-ranked G-MAC team in the NWCA poll.
 
It was another successful season for the Great Midwest as 13 total individuals qualified for nationals.
