INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for February 26th, 2024 are based on student-athlete performance from February 19th, 2024- February 25th, 2024.
 
Baseball
Pitcher
Brian Allen / Ohio Dominican University / Fr. / Pitcher / Wadsworth, Ohio
Ohio Dominican’s Brian Allen tossed a complete game shutout against Virginia-Wise over the weekend. Allen allowed just two singles and threw four strikeouts in seven scoreless innings. He became the only freshman in program history to throw a complete game shutout in his first career start for the Panthers.
 
Player
Jaekob Sallee / Hillsdale College / Sr. / Outfield / Ostego, Mich.
Sallee went 5 for 8 (.625) in two wins against Cal PA over the weekend. He recorded a double and two home runs for three RBIs, finishing with a 1.500 SLG %. In a 4-1 win, Sallee hit the go-ahead two-run home run in the top of the ninth to seal Hillsdale’s victory.
 
Men’s Basketball
Kennedy Miles / Kentucky Wesleyan College / Sr. / Guard / Burlington, N.C.
Kennedy Miles led the Panthers to a 2-0 week with wins over Thomas More and Cedarville. Miles scored a career-high 26 points, including four threes in a 90-77 win over the Yellow Jackets. He then went on to pour in 25 points against Thomas More, which included a perfect 4-4 from three. For the week, Miles was 19-32 (.590) from the field and 8-13 (.620) from behind the arc.
 
Women’s Basketball
Annie Roshak / Ashland University / Gr. / Forward / North Canton, Ohio
Annie Roshak posted an impressive stat line with 17.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.0 block per game in a 2-0 week for the Eagles. She shot 50% from the field, including 5-8 from three. Roshak is fourth in the league in scoring at 16.0 points per game and first in FG% at .619 on the year.
 
Men’s Lacrosse
Defensive:
Will Cody / Seton Hill University / So. /Goalkeeper/ Pottstown, PA
Will Cody earned defensive player of the week for the second consecutive week. He secured seven saves in the Griffins 11-2 win over Chestnut Hill. He finished the day with two ground balls and one caused turnover.
 
Offensive:
Ethan Landymore / Mercyhurst University / Sr. / Attack/ Okotoks, AB
Mercyhurst’s Ethan Landymore found the back of the net five times in the Lakers’ win over Wilmington. Landymore was 5-11 on the day and set a new season-high for goals in a single game.
 
Women’s Lacrosse
Defensive:
Shannon Smith / Lake Erie College / Jr. /Midfield/ Wantagh, N.Y.
Shannon Smith had a record-breaking performance for the Storm in a 14-8 win against West Virginia Wesleyan. Smith caused a program-high seven turnovers and recovered five ground balls.
 
Offensive:
Ashley Fisher / Ashland University / So. / Attack/ Sunbury, Ohio
Ashley Fisher led the Eagles to a 2-0 week with wins over Notre Dame College and Davenport. Fisher totaled nine points for the week including four goals and five assists. Fisher currently averaged 2.67 goals per game.
 
Men’s Tennis
Sean Barstow / Hillsdale College / Sr./ Las Vegas, Nev.
The senior from Las Vegas  went 3-1 in a split weekend for Hillsdale. He was victorious at No. 1 doubles with a 6-4 win against Lake Superior State to secure his 100th career victory. Barstow then went on to earn the match-clinching singles point at No. 5 singles. He is currently tied for fourth in program history for career victories.
 
Women’s Tennis
Anne Dannhauser / Hillsdale College/ Fr./ Johannesburg, South Africa
Hillsdale swept the tennis awards this week as Anne Dannhauser went 3-1, including two wins at No. 1 singles. She also won at No. 2 doubles 7-5 over Ferris State.
 
Softball
Pitcher:
Grace Hammer / Ohio Dominican University / Gr. / Pitcher / Uniontown, Ohio
ODU’s Grace Hammer pitched 15.1 innings for the Panthers in three appearances, including two starts. She accumulated a 1-1 record for the week while pitching one complete game. Hammer had a 7-0 shutout win against Quincy and collected a save against No. 9 UIndy. For the week, Hammer collected 14 strikeouts and recorded an ERA of 0.00.
 
Player:
Joslynne Frazier / University of Findlay / Fr. / Utility / Ontario, Ohio
Joslynne Frazier had an outstanding week for the Oilers, going 6-9 (.667) from the plate and recording a slugging percentage of 1.778. Frazier totaled four RBIs including three home runs and a double to score five total runs.
