In the latest Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) NCAA Division II Coaches Poll, released on Tuesday (Dec. 17) afternoon, Ashland University's women's basketball team is in the No. 21 spot.
Ashland is 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference heading into the final two games of the calendar year, both at the Sherrill Hudson Court at Kates Gymnasium – Thursday (Dec. 19) at 5:30 p.m. vs. No. RV Indiana, Pa., and Sunday (Dec. 22) at 2 p.m. against No. 22 Northern Michigan.
Tuesday's poll marks the first time the Eagles have been ranked No. 21 in the country, the 179
th time they have been in the Top 25, and the 59
th straight poll as a ranked team. Ashland is 336-23 (.936) all-time as a ranked team in the D-II Coaches Poll.
Ashland did receive one first-place vote on Tuesday.
Through Monday (Dec. 16), senior forward
Hayley Smith is tied as the D-II pacesetter in total rebounds with 129, and is tied for eighth in the country in field-goal percentage at 59.6. As a team, Ashland is sixth in the nation in assists per game (18.7) and ninth in scoring defense (50.6 ppg.).
