Tiffin, Ohio- For the first time in program history, the Findlay Oilers clinched the 2024 Great Midwest Men’s Soccer Championship on Saturday with a 1-0 victory over Kentucky Wesleyan.
After four shots on goal in the first half, senior Maciej Gaszynski led the Oiler’s into halftime with the lead courtesy of his goal in the 40th minute. Gaszynski was assisted by Tyler Pawlicki, and this is his fourteenth goal of the season.
The Oilers’ held a strong defensive unit throughout the game, led by the Great Midwest Goalkeeper of the Year, Keegan Grant, who faced four shots on goal, most of which came in the second half. The Oilers offense kept the pressure up in return, putting five shots up in the second half alone.
Kentucky Wesleyan finishes their impressive run in G-MAC play with a 7-5-3 record (10-6-4). This season marks the program’s first 10-win campaign since 1991.
Findlay will now receive the automatic qualifier for the NCAA Division II Men’s Soccer Tournament. The rest of the field will be revealed on the NCAA’s Selection Show on Monday at 6:30 P.M. ET.
