Ashland University's women's soccer team is up to the No. 3 spot in the United Soccer Coaches (USC) Coaches Top 25 NCAA Division II women's poll – the latest edition of which was released on Tuesday (Oct. 22) afternoon.
The Eagles, in their highest spot in the USC poll this season, are at 11-1-1 overall and 8-0-1 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference, alone in first place in the league table with five regular-season games remaining.
Ashland will play host to Kentucky Wesleyan (4-9, 3-6) at Ferguson Field on Thursday (Oct. 24) at 6:30 p.m., for its Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Also, Eagle students will receive a free hot chocolate or popcorn (limit one item per student) at this game, and also will at the Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. home game for men's soccer vs. Malone.
Through Monday (Oct. 21), Ashland is second in D-II in corner kicks per game (9.54), tied for fifth in goals-against average (0.31), and eighth winning percentage (.885) and save percentage (.897).
Individually, junior forward
Dani Hicks leads the nation in game-winning goals (six), and fifth-year goalkeeper
Mackenzie Simon is the country's pacesetter in both goals-against average (0.15) and save percentage (.952). Hicks also is sixth in D-II in both points (27, tied) and eighth in goals (11), while senior forward
McKinley Mendenhall is tied for 10
th with seven assists.
