The Hillsdale College football team was excited to host its annual Victory Day celebration on Sept. 6, 2024 the night before its home opener against the University of Indianapolis the following evening.
Victory Day was founded in 2010 by Aaron Segedi, a native of Riverview, who strongly believed that building character holds equal importance to teaching and coaching student-athletes.
As a part of Victory Day, the Hillsdale College football team invites local community members with special needs to join them for a dinner on Friday night, followed by an evening practice where participants get the opportunity to participate in modified football drills that have them throwing, running, catching and kicking the football as well as having touchdown plays run for them. Participants are paired up with a member of the Hillsdale College football team who serves as their host for the meal and throughout the evening practice. The Hillsdale College football team has been running Victory Day celebrations for a decade, with only a short interruption during the Covid-19 pandemic.
After an evening of fun with the football team on Friday, the participants were invited back as special guests of the program for Hillsdale’s home opener against Indianapolis, where they led Hillsdale out onto the field, served as honorary captains for the coin toss, and participated in halftime festivities.
