INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for January 22nd, 2024 are based on student-athlete performance from January 16th, 2024- January 21st, 2024.
Men’s Basketball
Jayvon Maughmer / Cedarville University / Sr. / Forward / Chillicothe, Ohio
Cedarville’s Jayvon Maughmer led the Yellow Jackets to their sixth consecutive win with victories over Wilberforce and Ashland. Maughmer posted a triple-double against Wilberforce with 16 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds. In a 74-44 win over Ashland, he went on to score 17 points. For the week, he averaged 16.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and seven assists per game. He currently leads the league in scoring with 20.1 points per game.
Women’s Basketball
Annie Roshak / Ashland University / Gr. / Forward / North Canton, Ohio
Roshak had an outstanding week for the nationally-ranked Ashland Eagles. She posted 24.5 points, 6.5 rebounds, 1.0 assist, and .5 steals as Ashland remains undefeated in conference play. Roshak shot 66.7% (20-of-30) from the field and 70.0% (7-of-10) from three.
Men’s Indoor Field
Jacob Michael / University of Findlay / Sr. / Pole Vault / Elida, Ohio
For the second consecutive week, Jacob Michael earned athlete of the week for men’s indoor field. Michael won the pole vault at the Findlay Alumni Classic with a mark of 5.02m. His mark currently sits at No. 9 in Division II.
Men’s Indoor Track
Dillan Haviland / Northwood University / Sr. / Distance / St. Johns, Mich
Dillan Haviland had a record breaking weekend for the Timberwolves. He set a program record and took home the gold in the mile with a time of 4:01.46. Not only did Haviland break the program record, but he shattered the Great Midwest mile time by 2 seconds, ranking as the fastest in G-MAC history to date. Haviland’s time is the second-best time in Division II this season and cleared the NCAA provisional mark by eight seconds.
Women’s Indoor Field
Victoria Harvey / University of Findlay / Fr. / Pole Vault / Etna, Ohio
Findlay’s Victoria Harvey won the pole vault at the Findlay Alumni Open with a mark of 4.05m. Her mark moves to No. 4 in D2.
Women’s Indoor Track
Brooke Armbrust / Ohio Dominican University / Jr. / Sprints / Grove City, Ohio
Brooke Armbrust won the 60-meter dash at the Ashland Invitational. She set an Ohio Dominican record and hit a provisional mark with a time of 7.56 seconds. Armbrust also finished third in the 200-meter with another program record of 25.40 seconds.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Camilo Marrugo / University of Findlay / Jr. / Soledad, Calif.
Camilo Marrugo won the 200 fly (1:53.46) and 50 free (21.13) over the weekend. He also ran a leg in the 200 medley relay (1:30.26) and 200 free relay (1:23.84).
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Katie Susi / University of Findlay/ So. / Amherst, Ohio
Katie Susi took home the gold in three events over the weekend. She won the 200 breast (2:22.68), 400 individual medley (4:34.46) and 100 breast (1:05.47). Susi was also a member of the first place 200 medley relay (1:45.51) in opponents from Wayne State and Grand Valley State.
Wrestling
Gavin Ritter / University of Findlay / Sr. / 133 lbs. / Wauseon, Ohio
Findlay’s Gavin Ritter defeated the No. 11 ranked opponent in the 133 lbs. weight class by a score of 6-1.
