INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for January 16th, 2024 are based on student-athlete performance from January 8th, 2024- January 15th, 2024.
 
Men’s Basketball
Jacob Drees / Cedarville University / Gr. / Forward / Hilliard, Ohio
Jacob Drees led the Yellow Jackets to a victory over conference opponent Lake Erie. Drees posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. He nearly recorded a triple-double, adding nine assists on the day. Drees currently leads the conference in rebounds with 8.5 per game.
 
Women’s Basketball
Lydia Sweeney / Cedarville University / Sr. / Guard / Grand Island, N.Y.
Cedarville’s Lydia Sweeney had a career night for the Yellow Jackets, tying her career high with 33 points in a win over Lake Erie. She added eight rebounds, seven assists, and three steals while shooting 55% from the field. Sweeney is the leading scorer in the conference at 19.8 points per game.
 
Men’s Indoor Field
Jacob Michael / University of Findlay / Sr. / Pole Vault / Elida, Ohio
Jacob Michael of Findlay won the pole vault at the Oilers’ home meet with a mark of 5.01m. Michael’s 5.01m currently ranks as the seventh best mark in Division II this year.
 
Men’s Indoor Track
Daylen Madison / Ashland University / So. / Distance / Medina, Ohio
Ashland’s Daylen Madison won the 800-meter at Kent State’s Jud Logan Memorial. He registered a time of 1:52.07, which ranks as No. 4 in Division II.
 
Women’s Indoor Field
Victoria Harvey / University of Findlay / Fr. / Pole Vault / Etna, Ohio
Victoria Harvey took home the gold in pole vault with a height of 4.01m. Her mark ranks as a team-high and the fifth best in D2.
 
Women’s Indoor Track
Jade Avance / Ashland University / So. / Sprints / Milford, Ohio
Jade Avance won the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.68 seconds. Her time is No. 14 in Division II to date.
 
Wrestling
Daulton Mayer / Thomas More University / Sr. / 197 lbs. / Mentor, Ky.
Thomas More’s Daulton Mayer went 3-0 over the weekend. In the 197 lbs. weight class, Mayer defeated opponents from Grand Valley State, Glenville State, and Findlay. All three of Mayer’s victories came from falls.
