INDIANAPOLIS- The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) released their list of 201 semifinalists for the 2023 William V. Campbell Trophy Wednesday morning. The 34
th edition of the award features 15 Division II student-athletes, two of which are from the Great Midwest.
The William V. Campbell Trophy is one of college football’s premier scholar-athlete awards and recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the nation for academic and athletic success as well as exemplary leadership.
Ashland’s Jake McLoughlin and Hillsdale’s Michael Harding were selected as two of the 201 total football student-athletes selected across all levels of play.
McLoughlin, a Zanesville, Ohio native, is one of five captains for the Ashland football team. He holds a cumulative GPA of 3.54 as a Master of Business Administration grad student. This season, McLoughlin has seven catches for 60 yards and one touchdown.
Michael Harding, a tight end from Livonia, Mich., is a three-time Great Midwest All-Conference selection with 523 yards and seven touchdowns over the course of his career at Hillsdale. Off the field, Harding holds a 3.9 GPA as a Financial Management major.
Both McLoughlin and Harding are leaders in their communities, helping with youth camps and several other outreach programs on campus.
The NFF will announce 12-14 finalists on October 25. Finalists will receive a postgraduate scholarship as a member of the 2023 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class.
