Great Midwest Athletes of the Week (Sept. 18)

INDIANAPOLIS- The Great Midwest Athletes of the week for September 18th, 2023 are based on student-athlete performance from September 11th, 2023- September 17th, 2023.
 
Football
Defense: Stevie Douglas / Northwood University / Jr. / Safety / Confier, Colo.
Northwood’s Stevie Douglas had an outstanding defensive performance for the Timberwolves in a 34-27 loss to Tiffin. He finished with 15 tackles, an interception, a forced fumble, and a blocked extra point. Douglas returned his interception the length of the field, becoming only the second player in program history to do so since 1987. The junior safety currently leads the conference with 29 tackles this season.  
 
Offense: Christian Arrambide / Kentucky Wesleyan College / Sr. / Quarterback / Memphis, Tenn.
For the second straight week, KWC’s Cristian Arrambide has earned Offensive Player of the Week. Arrambide went 21-38 in a 31-28 victory over Walsh. He registered 334 passing yards, while also rushing for 74 yards and accounting for three touchdowns. The Memphis, Tennessee native currently leads the league in total passing yards (873), yards/game (291.0), and total offense/game (327.7)
 
Special Teams: Makya Matthews / University of Findlay/ Jr. / Running Back / Wheelersburg, Ohio
Findlay’s Makya Matthews has been named Special Teams Player of the Week after recording two kick returns for 116 yards in Findlay’s win over Lake Erie. Matthews returned the opening kickoff 89 yards to set the Oilers up on Lake Erie’s five yard line to start the game. His 89-yard return is the longest kick return at UF since 2017.
 
Men’s Cross Country
Noah Fisher / University of Findlay / Sr. / Defiance, Ohio
Findlay Senior Noah Fisher took home first place at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate. He crossed the line in the Men’s 8k with a time of 24:14.24. Fisher’s time currently ranks as the 14th fastest time in G-MAC history.
 
Women’s Cross Country
Hannah Rhem / Cedarville University / Gr. / New Bern, N.C.
Hannah Rhem placed first of 343 individuals at Cedarville’s All-Ohio Intercollegiate meet. Rhem registered a 6k time of 21:14.00 and led the Yellow Jackets to a first-place team finish.
 
Men’s Golf
Andrew Kolar / Ashland University / 5th Year / Grand Rapids, Mich.
Fifth-year student Andrew Kolar led the Eagles to a fourth-place finish at the Malone-Glenmoor Fall Invitational. He finished second overall with rounds of 68-73-74 to finish with a score of 215.
 
Women’s Golf
Mary Kelly Mulcahy / University of Findlay / Jr. / Lima, Ohio
Mary Kelly Mulcahy of Findlay earned Medalist status at the UIndy Fall Invitational, firing rounds of 74-68-70 (212) to finish -4. Mulcahy was the only individual player to finish under par at the event, while also leading the Oilers to a first-place finish in a field of nationally-ranked programs.
 
Men’s Soccer
Defense:  Jabari Gray / Cedarville University / Sr. / Goalkeeper / Gasparillo, Trinidad and Tobago
Cedarville’s Jabari Gray posted his fourth career shutout in a 2-0 victory over Northwood over the weekend. Earlier in the week, Gray also registered a shutout in a 0-0 draw against Findlay. He is currently leading a Cedarville defense that has not allowed a goal in 373 minutes of play.
 
Offense: Oliver Whaley / Ashland University/ Fifth Year / Midfield / East Bridgford, England
Oliver Whaley totaled six points on the week as Ashland went 1-0-1. Whaley had one assist in a 2-0 victory over Walsh. Against Malone, he recorded two goals and one assist in a 3-3 tie.

Women’s Soccer
Defense: Lindsay Jacob / Northwood University / Fr. / Goalkeeper / St. Clair Shores, Mich.
Lindsay Jacob led the Timberwolves to a 2-0 mark last week, recording her first shutout of her college career against Lake Erie. Jacob collected 11 saves on the week, including eight in Northwood’s 3-2 upset over RV Cedarville. She currently leads the conference in saves with 32 on the season.
 
Offense: Hannah Stein / Walsh University / Sr. / Forward/ Canfield, Ohio
Walsh’s Hannah Stein led the Cavaliers to their first conference victory of the year over Thomas More. Stein accounted for both of Walsh’s goals, while only playing 39 total minutes. She currently ranks 7th in the conference in goals-scored.

Volleyball North Division
Defense: Maizie Brown / Hillsdale College / Jr. / Middle Hitter / Portage, Mich.
Maizie Brown earned Defensive Player of the Week for the north division after strong performances against Ursuline and Lake Erie. Brown totaled 10 blocks, including three solo blocks (1.67 per set). She is currently second in the G-MAC in solo blocks at 14. On the week, Brown registered a .560 hitting percentage with 17 kills.
 
Offense: Sydney Hasenfratz / Northwood University / So. / Middle Back / Clarkston, Mich.
Hasenfratz was selected as the north division’s Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 4.38 kills per at a .492 hitting percentage for the Timberwolves. Hasenfratz posted a stat line of 20 kills, five blocks, and seven digs in 3-2 victory over Lake Erie. Against Ursuline, she registered 15 kills and zero errors for a .750 attack percentage. In the Great Midwest, Hasenfratz leads in attack percentage (.471) and points per set (4.34)
 
Volleyball South Division
Defense: Kelsey Shoup / Ohio Dominian University / Sr. / Libero / Dalton, Ohio
Kelsey Shoup recorded 32 digs over the weekend, averaging 3.20 per set. She totaled 20 in a five-set win at Trevecca and 12 at Kentucky Wesleyan. Shoup ranks fifth in the conference in digs per set (4.41) and total digs (145)
 
Offense: Emma Titus / Trevecca Nazarene University / Jr. / Outside Hitter / Hendersonville, Tenn.
Trevecca’s Emma Titus hit .246 over three matches with 63 total kills. Titus registered a double-double in all three matches, whiles totaling nine blocks and three service aces. She averaged 4.50 kills per set and 2.43 digs per set as Trevecca went 1-2 on the weekend.
