Student-Athletes Meet in Columbus for Annual SAAC Meeting

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Great Midwest Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) gathered in Columbus last week along with conference staff and advisors for its annual summit.
 
19604The two-day summit started with a community engagement activity in conjunction with Columbus Recreation & Parks. On Friday, over 20 Great Midwest SAAC members traveled to Willis Athletic Complex to spend time with youth campers. For two hours, SAAC members split into groups and participated in various activities with over 50 campers.

The first day ended in an interactive seminar with Jeff Puster from Step-Up Bystander Training. The seminar focused on providing strategies and techniques to intervene directly or indirectly in both emergency and non-emergency situations.
 
Saturday began with a business meeting in which SAAC members discussed goals for the upcoming academic year. The meeting was led by Alexis Montalvo, National SAAC Chair, as well as Trent Maddox, Great Midwest Chair.
 
19605Former Ashland Women’s Basketball Coach and National Champion Sue Ramsey joined the group following the conclusion of the business meeting. Ramsey led a professional development workshop in which the group participated in various teambuilding and leadership activities.
 
The Great Midwest SAAC meets five times a year, twice a semester via video conference and once each summer at an in-person summit.
