COLUMBUS, Ohio- The University of Findlay, specifically Kyle Niermann and Meredith Wipper, were officially honored with the inaugural Great Midwest Athletic Conference Sports Information Director (SID) Staff of the Year Award as part of the league’s annual support staff meetings conducted on Thursday.
The Sports Information Directors, Athletic Trainers, and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representatives from the Great Midwest met over the previous two days in Columbus, Ohio to prepare for the upcoming academic year.
The 2022-23 SID Staff of the Year Award was voted upon by the conference sports information departments, with one vote being cast per institution.
The team of Assistant Athletic Director for External Affairs Kyle Niermann and Director of Digital Strategy & Creative Content Meredith Wipper make up the sports information team at Findlay. Niermann has been a staple of Findlay since 2015, serving as the Assistant Director of Media Relations until 2021. Wipper joined the Oilers in 2022 after serving as a Graduate Assistant under Niermann.
Together, they have tirelessly promoted the Oilers’ athletic programs and told the stories of student-athletes through feature articles and a steady stream of social media content.
“We're incredibly honored to be selected by our peers as the recipients of this year's SID of the Year award,” said Neirmann. “While we are blessed to receive this recognition, it's important that the hard work of everyone in the conference is highlighted. The Great Midwest has a cohesive group of athletics communications professionals that we are lucky to call our coworkers and friends. Often working behind the scenes, each of those people is critical to the success of their departments and we could not do what we do without each of them.”
The duo has also also assisted the conference tremendously in various areas, serving as the host site for the 2022 Cross Country Championships and providing assistace at neutral-site conference championships like softball and baseball.

The award recognizes and takes into consideration the following criteria: hospitality and communication demonstrated towards their peers, accuracy and timeliness of statistics, social media development and growth and any additional awards received with in the industry.
