Tiffin Men, Findlay Women Claim Great Midwest Outdoor Track & Field Titles

ASHLAND, Ohio- The Great Midwest Outdoor Track & Field Championships trophies went to the Tiffin men and Findlay women on Friday. Tiffin claimed their third title, while Findlay won its second.
 
TU finished with 181 points ahead of runner-up Findlay(150). The Findlay women collected 189.75 points, 32.75 points ahead of runner up Hillsdale.
 
Findlay’s Trista Fintel was awarded the Female Field Athlete of the Meet after totaling 28 points. Fintel finished first in the Shot Put and Hammer throw, while earning a second place finish in the Discus.
 
Rajiah Andrews of Tiffin took home the Female Track Athlete of the Meet award after hitting a provisional mark and winning the 100 hurdles with a time 13.99. Andrews hit another provisional mark and finished runner-up in the 200m dash (24.20)
 
Walsh’s Kya Epps was the top-scoring freshman on the women’s side, taking home the gold in the 100m and 200m, while also being a member of the third-place 4x100 relay team.
 
Storm Elsesser of Ashland University earned two first-place finishes in the High Jump and Long Jump, while also coming in third in the triple jump. He was the highest-scoring male field athlete at 26 points, making him the Male Field Athlete of the Meet.
 
Walsh’s Zach Kreft and Tiffin’s Widchard Guervil topped all male track athletes to earn Male Track Athletes of the Meet. Guervil won the 100m (10.28) and placed second in the 200m (21.08). Kreft was victorious in both the 5K and 10K to earn 20 points for the fifth place Cavaliers.
 
A pair of Freshman from Tiffin claimed a share of the Freshman of the Meet title. Shimar Bain and Dylan Randall finished the event with 12.5 points apiece.
 
In the next week, Great Midwest track & field coaches will compete at last chance meets to improve their athletes’ chances at the upcoming national championships. The NCAA meet will run May 25-27 in Pueblo, CO.
