Great Midwest Announces Women's Golf All-Conference Selections

INDIANAPOLIS—After winning its fifth consecutive Great Midwest Title, Findlay’s Mary Kelly Mulcahy and Coach Dom Guarnieri headlined the conference’s end-of-the-year awards as the Player and Coach of the Year, voted on by the league’s coaches. Walsh’s Sydney Hugo is the Freshman of the Year and Ohio Dominican’s Abby Dillon won the Elite 26 award for academic excellence.
 
The Women’s Golf tournament was held in Lexington, KY April 27-29, as Findlay and Tiffin met in the medal match for the second consecutive year. The Oilers went on to win by a score of 4-1 to claim their fifth title.
 
Gabby Woods was the medalist at the Championship, shooting rounds of 69-75-70, earning her a spot on the all-conference team.
 
Woods’ teammate Mary Kelly Mulcahy was voted as the Golfer of the Year after finishing third in Lexington through 54 (72-73-71) to shoot even par. Mulcahy is ranked second in the East Region and 14th in the nation, with an average of 73.81 this season.
 
Guarnieri has now won the conference’s coach of the year award five times. He owns seven coach of the year trophies in all as well as a national championship title. In his tenth season at Findlay, Guarnieri landed five individuals on the all-conference team.  
 
Sydney Hugo was named the conference’s top freshman after a season in which she placed in the top 10 in six events on the year, including two second place finishes. Hugo averaged 76.9 in stroke place and placed sixth in the conference championship in her collegiate debut. Her average score is ranked 11th in the region.
 
 The Elite 26 Award winner was Ohio Dominican’s Abby Dillon, a junior majoring in Psychology.
 
Findlay, Ohio Dominican, and Walsh as well as Northwood’s Ines Dorado will make their way to Springfield, Ill. for the East Regional, scheduled for May 8-10.
