5.17.23

Jill Schmitmeyer of Findlay has earned the Great Midwest Athletic Conference’s highest female honor. Schmitmeyer, who just completed a prolific golf career at Findlay, is the 2023 Great Midwest Collegiate Achievement Award winner and will be recognized at the conference’s annual awards banquet Tuesday, May 23.

Schmitmeyer, a native of St. Mary’s Ohio, was a standout athlete during her five years at Findlay. She was a member of the 2022 national championship team and graduated  from Findlay Summa Cum Laude. A two-time All-American, Schmitmeyer was the 2020-21 Great Midwest Golfer of the Year. She led the Oilers to the program’s first-ever national title, three East Regional championships, and five consecutive conference championships.

Schmitmeyer finished her career with three individual wins and currently leads the Oilers on the career scoring list.

Off the course, Schmitmeyer is lauded for her involvement in the community. She is active in several outreach programs at Findlay and in her hometown. She graduated from UF in Spring of 2021 with an undergraduate degree in Managerial Accounting. She is currently pursuing her MBA and plans to become a CPA post-grad.

“Jill has been one of our top performers on and off the golf course for the previous four seasons. She is motivating, encouraging, loyal, and a hard worker,” Findlay’s golf coach Dominic Guarnieri said.

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference annually honors a male and a female outgoing senior student-athlete with the Collegiate Achievement Award. This award is based on an individual’s academic excellence, athletic achievements, character, leadership, and engagement within the community and conference. The 2022-23 academic year represents the ninth presentation of the award and is the highest honor a Great Midwest student-athlete can receive.
